This is the first Thanksgiving I am spending by myself, and not going to lie, it’s pretty depressing.
Don’t get me wrong, I was invited to a few lunches and dinners, but I’m weird and like staying home – apparently that includes big holiday’s as well. Meh.
I guess I’ll start off with what I did. Well, I went to Ralph’s to buy some groceries to cook this pasta my cousin, Leia, taught me how to make for lunch – and I’ll honestly probably get McDonald’s later for dinner. I can’t cook much, and love fast food. Don’t judge me.
Anyway, I kind of had Thanksgiving lunch with my family through facetime which was pretty nice. We facetimed while we were both eating, so it felt like I was there (considering they put the phone on the table at one point lol)
As homesick, and sad I’m feeling because I’m not home – I still have happiness right now because of everything I’m thankful for:
God – He’s blessed my life more than I could have ever imagined or wanted. From grooming me as a person by teaching me through experiences (good and bad), and the many doors he has and will continue to open. Knowing your purpose in life, and God’s plan for you, is truly one of the greatest feelings, and I will be forever grateful.
Family – They truly are my best friends. I miss them everyday and can’t wait until we can be together again. For those who don’t know, I’m not only close with my immediate family, I’m also very close with my aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. I literally talk to at least one of them everyday.
Anyway, there’s so much I love about them from their humor to how much we all look out for each other – Anyone who is best friends with one DeLeon, becomes best friends with all of us. It’s to the point where people joke about a DeLeon friend being an actual “DeLeon.” My own friends say they wish they were as close to their family as mine is. They’re the best.
Friends – I have a very close circle of friends, and a majority of them I’ve been friends with since middle school. It’s awesome because despite the distance and the cut down of communication due to schedules, nothing has changed. Those are my best friends, and always will be.
One Church LA – I was brought to this church earlier this year, and although I’ve always had a great relationship with God, this church really brought a different outlook on my life. It keeps me grounded, and definitely one of the many places I find inspiration.
Dominick’s Health – My Godson, Dominick, has been through so much and I am thankful for his health. Lauren, Dom’s mom, and also my best friend, is going to share Dom’s story and update you with his progress on my site very soon. Look out for that!
Everyone who gave me a chance – It’s truly a blessing to know that if I were to write out a list of every individual that gave me a chance, or helped my career, it would be never ending. To be honest, I’ll probably write out that list little-by-little.
Supporters – Oh man… it’s still crazy to see random tweets, messages and emails from people who genuinely support my work but have never met me. I know you’re supposed to call those supporters “fans” but I really do love them as if they were my friends. I wouldn’t be able to do any of this without you. Thank you.
Internet & Social Media – If I really reflect on my story, internet and social media are what put everything in place for me. From creating my site, to landing different jobs and building my brand. Technology is awesome. I can’t wait to see what else some genius comes up with.
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!
Oh – also, I just found a Thanksgiving blog from the last one we all celebrated together in 2011, and it made me laugh. It’s everything the DeLeon’s fight about on this special holiday.
