We all tend to vent to our family and friends about the struggles and problems we are dealing with. Yes, it is great to have these people to go to, but ideally – we should all be going to God.

I used to be the person who vented to all my close friends, but now I only talk to my family and pray to God every night before I sleep. If you think about it, you can get all the advice in the world from your friends – but they don’t know every single thought you’re thinking or feel what you’re truly feeling. They don’t know your entire life, and they don’t know your future. God knows you better than anyone – better yet, He knows you better than you know yourself.

People always say that prayer works, but don’t take the action of actually doing it. I broke into the habit of praying every night before I go to bed, and I literally pray until I fall asleep. It feels so good to let everything out – there’s no hiding anything or having to put up a front.

I start by praying for all of my family — from my parents, brother, cousins, aunts, uncles and family in the Philippines, then for my friends. I also devote time to pray for one specific person. It’s either someone I haven’t talked to in so long, someone I only talk to once a month and people who may not even like me. Why? Because everyone is fighting their own battles, and could use some prayer in their life.

Don’t just pray when you need something and you’re stuggling, pray all the time. Pray for everything you’re thankful for, pray for others and then pray for the things you think you need or desire. Just remember, God would not put you through anything you couldn’t handle, and He is in full control of everything. Sometimes we have to accept that the answer to some of our prayers are “no” and have faith that something better is coming. Bottom line, he has your best interest at heart.

When you pray before you sleep or when you wake up, you start the day off right. There is no weight being carried, because you let it all go. I think we all should get in the habit of that.

“Let go, and let GOD.”
