This Morning I Cheated: On My Yoga Practice

Breakups are never a fun thing to endure, and we all cope with it differently. Here’s a guide of what you should NOT do after a bad breakup.

1. Don’t vandalize his Stuff:
Yes, he may have broken your heart, but that doesn’t mean you need to break his windows, key his car, burn his clothes, or destroy his beloved PlayStation. Not only does it make you look crazy, but it could lead to some criminal charges. You’re too cute for jail!

2. Vent on social media:
We all know those couples that are constantly breaking up and publicly announcing their hate for each other, and a week later they decide they love each other again. If you think that reconciliation is a possibility, then refrain from bad-mouthing your ex.  Don’t over-share details of your breakup. All those followers you have on Instagram and Twitter probably don’t genuinely care. Instead call up one of your best friends and vent over some wine.

3. Don’t stalk your ex’s (via Twitter/IG/Facebook, or at all, for that matter):
As difficult as it is not to stalk your ex’s social media pages – DON’T DO IT! Not only will it drive you crazy to see some girl leaving him thirsty comments, but it takes away from you solely focusing on you.

4. Don’t hide your emotions:
I feel like we live in an era where it’s almost unacceptable to mourn a breakup. It’s okay to go through all the sucky emotions that come with a breakup. It doesn’t take away from being a strong, independent woman.

5. Don’t party too hard:
Now, of course it’s good to go out with friends and have a couple of drinks, but when it’s done excessively, it becomes an issue. You should be going out with the intent of having a good time, not with the intent of drinking your problems away. Drinking will only help you forget for a moment, but it doesn’t fix anything permanently.

6. No rebounds:
I know you want to move forward and find a new beau to fill that void, but a rebound is never going to fulfill that. Plus, it’s not fair for the other person to get dragged along only because you need someone to text with. Being alone can be a scary thing, but it can also be a wonderful thing if you learn to embrace it.

7. Don’t blame yourself:
We are always going to think we could have done something to change the outcome of a situation. In reality, we can’t, and there’s no use in revisiting what you could have done differently. Instead focus on the present. It isn’t your fault the relationship didn’t work out. Everything happens for a reason, and sometimes breakups are necessary in order for both parties to grow.

8. Stop contacting him:
This is probably one of the toughest to do, because you literally go from constant communication to zero contact. It’s important to embrace the time you guys are apart. Post- breakup is a time when you learn the most about yourself and those around you. It’s a time when you realize many things that are essential for growth.

9. No pity parties:
You have so much to be thankful for. Write down all the great things you have going for yourself, all the great people you have in your life, and even things you’re looking forward to. Life is so beautiful, don’t let someone’s inability to appreciate you, destroy that!

10. Don’t give up on love:
Just because it didn’t work out this time, doesn’t mean it’s the end of your love life. Someone out there will love you just the way you are; I guarantee that. Have faith that it will happen when the time is right.
